Beltran Technologies WESP for FGD

January 10, 2020- Brooklyn, New York, USA –Beltran Technologies, Inc. has announced the development of an advanced Wet Electrostatic Precipitator for wet scrubber Flue Gas Desulfurization at power plants.

To control particulate, aerosols and visible emissions from wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) systems, wet electrostatic precipitators (WESP’s) have to be installed after desulfurization, as the WFGD system is inefficient to remove submicron particulate and sulfuric acid aerosols from the flue gas.  This is demonstrated with case histories that prove WESP’s are required.

WFGD and the WESP systems in power plants are engineered to remove particulate, and sulfuric acid aerosols. The Beltran WESP is a very important technology for the reduction of particulate and sulfuric acid emissions and is essential to control the final stack opacity.

Today, advanced Beltran Technology WESPs are designed around a multistage system of ionizing rods with star-shaped discharge points. These are encased within square or hexagonal tubes which are lined with grounded collection surfaces. The unique electrode geometry generates a corona field 4-5 times stronger than that of conventional wet or dry ESPs, propelling even submicron-size particulates and sulphuric acid droplets toward the collection surfaces, where they adhere as cleaned gas is passed through. The surfaces are intermittently cleansed of residues by recirculating water sprays.

The cool, saturated environment in the WESP makes the system highly effective on condensable or oily compounds, while the continuous aqueous flushing process prevents re-entrainment of particles, sticky residue build-ups and unfavorable particle resistivity. By eliminating the need for mechanical or acoustical rappers common to dry ESPs, the wet cleansing process also minimizes energy and maintenance costs.

Beltran Technologies, Inc. engineers and manufacturers of gas cleaning and air pollution control systems is working with power plants, metallurgical, and industrial processing

operations around the world. Beltran is a 75 years-old company with more than 1000 installations worldwide.
